Prosecutor General’s Office: Serviceman who left military unit without authorization detained in Armenia, criminal case launched

A criminal case has been launched over the disappearance of an Azerbaijani serviceman in the Lachin direction, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement, APA reports.

“Information has been circulated on some social media pages about the disappearance of Musayev Nasimi Rasim, who was undergoing active military service at one of the military units located in the direction of Azerbaijan’s Lachin district. We inform that on September 26, 2026, a search for Nasimi Musayev was launched after he was found to be absent from his place of service and his whereabouts could not be determined, and necessary search measures were carried out by the relevant forces of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

At the same time, a relevant inquiry was conducted by the Military Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the circumstances of the incident, and as a result of the inquiry, reasonable suspicions were established that Nasimi Musayev had left the military unit without authorization.

Based on the materials collected during the inquiry, a criminal case was launched by the Investigation Department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan under the relevant article of the Criminal Code, and necessary investigative and other procedural actions in the case are currently ongoing.

As a result of the measures carried out, it was established that Nasimi Musayev was in the territory of the Republic of Armenia and had been detained by the relevant authorities of that country.

Currently, the relevant state bodies of the Republic of Azerbaijan continue necessary contacts with the relevant bodies of the other side in order to clarify Nasimi Musayev’s presence and detention in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, as well as other circumstances of the incident,” the statement said.

It was noted that additional information on the course and results of the investigation into the criminal case will be provided to the public in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.
