A fire broke out in a high-rise residential building in Baku’s Nasimi district early this morning, prompting an emergency call to the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ (MES) 112 hotline, APA reports.
In response, the State Fire Protection Service and the Special Risk Rescue Service of the MES, along with firefighting equipment, were dispatched to the scene. According to the ministry, electrical cables inside the building shaft burned up to the 22nd floor, but the blaze was contained.
Colonel-Lieutenant Elkhan Badalov, assistant to the duty officer of the Firefighting Headquarters of the State Fire Protection Service, told APA that efforts to fully extinguish the fire are ongoing. He confirmed that 44 residents, including 12 children, were rescued.
The MES representative added that four people sought medical assistance due to smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
