The Main Directorate for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan has carried out a large-scale operation against members of a group organizing online gambling in the Azerbaijani segment of social networks, APA reports citing Ministry.
During an analysis of criminal behavior in the country's virtual space, employees of the Department identified several pages on Instagram, opened under anonymous names, that were involving citizens in online gambling.
Investigations revealed that more than 20.000.000 AZN had been deposited into bank accounts linked to third-party names used by the network.
Based on this, a criminal case was initiated under Articles 244-1.3.1and 193-1.3.1 and 193-1.3.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Preventive detention measures have been chosen for 9 individuals leading the network. Legal procedures have also begun to bring into the country the group members hiding in foreign countries to prosecute. The necessary operational-investigative and operational-technical measures to identify other members of the group are ongoing.
During the investigation, a total of 25 apartments, land plots, summer houses, commercial properties, and luxury vehicles, including Mercedes G-Class, Lexus, and Range Rover, purchased with illegally obtained funds amounting to 10.000.000 AZN, were identified and seized by court orders.
