Azerbaijan court orders three-month detention for man accused over attempted USSR-flag march -VIDEO -UPDATED-2

Submissions regarding individuals who attempted to march with USSR flags in order to promote communist ideology on social media have been reviewed, APA reports.

During a hearing at the Nizami District Court chaired by Judge Matanat Hajiyeva, a pre-trial detention measure of 3 months was chosen for İbrahim Asadli.

Additionally, at a hearing held in the Nizami District Court under the chairmanship of Judge Emin Akhundov, a 3-month pre-trial detention measure was also chosen for Abdulla İbrahimli.

They were charged under Article 233 of the Criminal Code (organizing actions that lead to the violation of public order or actively participating in such actions).

Videos of a group of people attempting to march with USSR flags to promote communist ideology have been circulating on social media, APA reports.

Through measures carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the organizers Abdulla Ibrahimli, Ibrahim Asadli, and other individuals who participated in the march were identified and detained, and a criminal case has been initiated against them.

The initial investigation determined that these individuals rented an office with the support and funding of another state, operated as a group, and held periodic meetings.

During the inspection of offices and apartments belonging to the mentioned individuals, numerous materials aimed at promoting communist ideology, flags, copies of books promoting radicalism, CD discs, and other electronic devices were discovered and seized.

Investigation measures are ongoing.
