The General Assembly of the "Transparency Azerbaijan" Anti-Corruption Public Union, which holds the status of the national branch of Transparency International, has decided to dissolve the public union, APA reports.

A Liquidation Commission (liquidator) has been appointed by the General Assembly's decision.

The Executive Director of "Transparency Azerbaijan" Anti-Corruption Public Union, Alimammad Nuriyev has released information in this regard.

According to him, the Liquidation Commission (liquidator) will apply to the Ministry of Justice in accordance with the established procedure to include information about the dissolution process of the NGO in the state registry of legal entities.

Later, the Liquidation Commission (liquidator) will carry out the necessary procedures in accordance with the legislation.

All local and international partners will be informed about this decision.

What is "Transparency Azerbaijan"?

The "Transparency Azerbaijan" organization was established in October 2000. As a fully authorized local branch, it was accredited by the Transparency International organization in October 2001, and it went through re-accreditation in August 2006. The organization presented its mission as "researching the causes, forms corruption in Azerbaijan and ways to reduce the dangerous social phenomenon."

One of the founders of the organization is Rana Safaraliyeva. Rana Safaraliyeva was also the executive director of the organization until 2019. She is currently a member of the organization's Board. Interestingly, Rana Safaraliyeva is also listed as a member of the Founders Council and an independent expert of the Board of Directors of "Transparency Azerbaijan."

Transparency International’s Bias Against Azerbaijan

The Transparency International organization, which granted accreditation to the "Transparency Azerbaijan" organization, has regularly demonstrated a biased stance, without conducting comprehensive investigations and without reflecting the government’s position in its reports regarding Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani government’s repeated statements that such reports are biased have not resulted in any change in the activities of this organization regarding Azerbaijan.

In its latest report, Transparency International again included biased information about Azerbaijan. Interestingly, the report uses only general statements, and no allegations are substantiated by facts.

Who is Rana Safaraliyeva?

Rana Safaraliyeva's name has recently been mentioned in the controversy related to the State Tourism Agency.

She is the mother-in-law of Fuad Naghiyev, the chairman of the State Tourism Agency, who was severely reprimanded by President Ilham Aliyev’s order yesterday.

Yesterday, the Lent.az website, citing its sources, wrote about the reasons for this severe reprimand. According to the website, the agency headed by Fuad Naghiyev had leaked official correspondence.

"The Tourism Agency has become a nest for people who have worked with or collaborated with the Transparency International organization, which has always taken an adversarial stance towards Azerbaijan. It is worth noting that Fuad Naghiyev's mother-in-law, Rana Safaraliyeva, has cooperated with the Transparency International organization for many years. She was the representative of this organization in Azerbaijan. Some individuals she mentored in this organization are now working at the State Tourism Agency. It is no surprise that they have become influential figures within the agency," wrote Lent.az.

According to the information, Fuad Naghiyev's entourage has been continuously leaking service information to various organizations and individuals. They even sent internal correspondence between state bodies to foreign embassies in Azerbaijan.
