Since its reorganization into a new operational model four years ago, the Agency has extended financial support amounting to approximately 13 million USD to 2,214 projects and initiatives by NGOs, said the Executive Director of the State Agency, Aygun Aliyeva, during the "Solidarity in Action: Strengthening Global South NGOs for a New and Fair World" held in Baku, APA reports.

She said that the institution she leads intends to continue its support to such organizations.

Aygun Aliyeva underscored the fact that a significant portion of the population residing in the Global South continues to endure poverty, the adverse consequences of climate change, colonial legacies, the digital divide, trade inequities, and other systemic issues. She also noted that the concept of the Global South transcends mere geography; it embodies an economic, political, and social framework:

“This framework necessitates novel approaches to global challenges and underscores the indispensable importance of interregional solidarity. Regrettably, a significant portion of the population residing in the Global South continues to endure poverty, the adverse consequences of climate change, colonial legacies, the digital divide, trade inequities, and other systemic issues. As a trustworthy and responsible member of the international community, Azerbaijan has consistently endeavored to serve as a bridge between the Global South and the Global North. Last year, by hosting the prestigious COP29 conference, Azerbaijan contributed meaningfully to the global efforts in combating the effects of climate change. Notably, the commitment to increase financial assistance from 100 billion USD to 300 billion USD represented a momentous decision for the future of nations with varying economic conditions.

The Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which I represent, is the legal successor to the first national donor institution dedicated to supporting the development of NGOs in Azerbaijan.

Since its reorganization into a new operational model four years ago, the Agency has extended financial support amounting to approximately 13 million USD to 2,214 projects and initiatives by NGOs. To date, close to 150 international initiatives have been implemented in collaboration with NGOs, and memoranda of understanding have been signed with numerous foreign partners. The Agency places particular emphasis on strengthening international cooperation and promoting solidarity. Through the financial support it provides, the participation of local NGOs in international projects is being systematically facilitated.

I am confident that this platform will be founded upon the principles of inclusivity, justice and tangible impact.

Indeed, we may speak different languages, but the language of solidarity unites us all."
