The biggest opportunity for Azerbaijani companies is the creation of applications, said Zack Kass, a consultant to OpenAI and former head of the company's department, at an event held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to him, there are currently two main directions in the field of artificial intelligence - the development of frontier models by large model manufacturers and the creation of applications: "The main question now is how economically efficient will the creation of the next models, such as GPT-6 or GPT-7 be. However, the application stage is often forgotten. However, it is applications that play a decisive role in shaping the market."
Z. Kass noted that the success of applications created outside Silicon Valley is increasing: "My strongest recommendation is that companies in countries like Azerbaijan should first create applications for the local market. Because these markets are quite large. Another important direction is the construction of infrastructure - data operations, ML ops, technical 'plumbing'. But I would not recommend investing in large data centers and fundamental research of models."
He added that this was his first time in Azerbaijan: "Baku is a very beautiful city, it is a great honor for me to be here, and I think I will come here again in the future."
