Negotiations are ongoing with potential satellite manufacturers, partners for the joint use of the satellite, and financial institutions regarding the Azerspace-3 project, which is Azerbaijan’s third telecommunications satellite, the Azerbaijan National Space Agency (AZERCOSMOS) said in response to APA-Economics’ inquiry.
It was noted that there is no change in the target regarding the satellite’s readiness and operation: “Traditional similar satellites usually have an operational lifespan of 15 years. However, different durations are also possible on modern platforms. Additional information will be provided once a final decision is made regarding the satellite’s manufacturer and the allocated investment.”
Recall that Azerbaijan’s first telecommunications satellite, “Azerspace-1,” was launched into orbit in 2013, while the second telecommunications satellite, “Azerspace-2,” was launched in 2018. Since 2023, work has begun on the “Azerspace-3” project aimed at replacing the “Azerspace-1” satellite in 2028-2029.
