The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) has been underway in Baku for the fourth day. Efforts to mitigate climate change, the progress made, and the best solutions are being assessed and discussed.
The highest-level event of COP29, the World Leaders' Climate Action Summit, took place on November 12-13. Starting today, the thematic days of COP29 have begun.
First in COP History: Digitalization Day
On November 16, COP29 will feature Science, Technology, and Innovation / Digitalization Day. This marks the first-ever Digitalization Day in COP history, introduced by Azerbaijan – the COP29 Presidency – which has made digital development and the creation of a modern innovation ecosystem a national priority.
Digital technologies play a crucial role in combating climate change. However, they also have negative aspects, such as energy consumption and electronic waste.
The first Digitalization Day will focus on mitigating the environmental impacts of technologies and encourage joint action among stakeholders for a sustainable digital transformation.
