The design phase of the “Azersky-2A” and “Azersky-2B” satellites has been completed, the Azerbaijan National Space Agency (AZERCOSMOS) said in response to APA-Economics’ inquiry.
According to the information, the production process of the “Azersky-2A” satellite is currently ongoing:
“The processes are taking place with the participation of Azerbaijani specialists. All agreements regarding the launch and operation of the satellite are already in place and are being implemented according to plan.”
It was noted that the assembly of the “Azersky-2B” satellite, as well as similar satellites, in Azerbaijan is envisaged in the future.
“Considering the export potential of the satellites, it is considered appropriate to keep the cost of the satellites as a commercial secret in order not to lose the advantage in negotiations with potential customers. The same issue also applies to the specific operation date, namely export activities related to the sale of services.”
Recall that "Azersky" is Azerbaijan's first remote sensing satellite for the Earth's surface and was launched into orbit in 2014. In 2023, the satellite completed its mission one year earlier than its operational lifespan, that is, in the 9th year of its operation. In the same year, a cooperation agreement was signed between Azercosmos and an Israeli company on the development of Azerbaijan’s new Earth observation satellites. According to the agreement, the production of two satellites — Azersky-2A and Azersky-2B — is envisaged within the framework of the Azersky-2 program.
