Over the past five years, Azerbaijan has achieved a remarkable digital transformation through the “Online Azerbaijan” project, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samaddin Asadov said during his speech at the “Azerbaijan-Connectivity in the Hospitality Sector” Summit, APA-Economics reports.

He noted that the initiative, launched in 2021 as part of the strategic roadmap for the development of the country’s internet infrastructure, aimed to provide high-speed broadband internet access for all citizens, especially in underserved and remote regions.

“By the end of 2025, the project achieved full nationwide coverage. Fiber broadband internet access increased from a total of 9% of households and businesses to nearly 100% today. This achievement has fundamentally reshaped Azerbaijan’s fixed broadband internet market.

The impact of this transformation is clearly reflected in performance indicators. According to Ookla Speedtest Intelligence data, the median speed of fixed broadband internet nationwide rose from around 10 Mbps in 2020 to about 90 Mbps by the end of 2025,” the deputy minister said.

He added that more than 40% of the work carried out under the project was focused on rural areas, where nearly half of the population lives.

“Through a public-private partnership model, outdated copper networks have been replaced with modern fiber-optic infrastructure, allowing us to significantly reduce the digital divide and ensure that geography is no longer a barrier to opportunities,” he said.
