A briefing was held today for local media representatives regarding the upcoming World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25), which will take place in Baku in November, MDDT told APA-Economics.

Rashad Bayramov, Advisor to the Minister, Orkhan Afandiyev, Head of International Event Organization, and Imran Mukhtarov, Head of the Space Academy of Azercosmos, provided information about the event’s objectives and benefits, as well as the participation of registered guests and media representatives.

It was noted that the World Telecommunication Development Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be held from November 17 to 28 at the Baku Congress Center. Being organized in the CIS region for the first time, this event will highlight Azerbaijan’s growing global role in digital transformation and technological innovation.

ITU organizes the World Telecommunication Development Conference every four years. The aim of the event is to bridge the digital divide among countries, promote innovation, and strengthen partnerships for an inclusive and sustainable digital future. This year’s conference will bring together around 2,000 delegates from more than 150 countries.

Within the framework of WTDC-25, discussions will focus on global trends such as cybersecurity, digital skills, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, digital health, quantum technologies, and environmental protection. The event will also serve as a vital platform for shaping next-generation ICT policies and deepening international cooperation.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has achieved significant progress in digital transformation, the expansion of the startup ecosystem, and the development of e-government. Efforts toward building broadband networks, enhancing digital literacy, and transitioning to a digital government have placed the country in the “Very High EGDI” category of the United Nations E-Government Development Index. This event will further strengthen Azerbaijan’s role in the global digital economy.

It should be noted that within the framework of WTDC-25, a Global Youth Summit will be held on November 16. The summit will bring together young leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs, and students from around the world to enhance their technological knowledge, build new collaborations, and discuss the professions of the future. The participation of Azerbaijani youth in this summit will provide them with international experience and promote the implementation of technological ideas and new initiatives within the country.
