The 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was held in Baku, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport (MDDT) told APA-Economics.

To participate in the meeting, a delegation led by Hayam Al-Yasiri, the co-chair of the Joint Commission from the Iraqi side and Iraq’s Minister of Communications, arrived in Azerbaijan.

Rashad Nabiyev, the co-chair of the Joint Commission from the Azerbaijani side and Minister of Digital Development and Transport, welcomed the Iraqi delegation and stated that Azerbaijan and Iraq — two friendly countries with strong historical, religious, and cultural ties — have great potential to further expand cooperation across various fields.

Rashad Nabiyev provided information about Azerbaijan’s macroeconomic indicators from last year and the volume of trade turnover between the two countries, emphasizing that the Joint Commission is an effective platform for expanding cooperation between the parties.

It was also noted that enhancing the activity of the Azerbaijan–Iraq Business Council could contribute to the development of trade relations between the two countries.

Rashad Nabiyev also spoke about the current situation regarding peacebuilding in the region, as well as the reconstruction and restoration work being carried out in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation. It was highlighted that the liberated territories are being rebuilt within the framework of the State Program on the Great Return and that the region has been declared a “green energy” zone.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on cooperation opportunities in the fields of economy, industry, trade, mutual investments, oil and gas, digital development, science and education, culture, tourism, youth, and sports.

At the end of the meeting, a Protocol on the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission on economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq was signed.

For reference, the Joint Commission was established on the basis of the “Agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, and cultural cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Iraq,” signed on November 10, 2010, in Baku.
