The Azerbaijan Space Agency ("Azercosmos"), as the first satellite operator in Azerbaijan and the region, holds strategic importance in the technological and economic development of the country, said Dunay Badirkhanov, Acting Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Space Agency ("Azercosmos"), at the event titled "Opportunities from Space: 10 Years of Our Space Observation’s Contribution to Socio-Economic Development," APA-Economics reports.
He noted that currently, Azerbaijan’s satellites provide services not only for our country but also for other states:
“Azerbaijan’s satellites provide telecommunications, broadcasting, and internet services across a wide geography covering Africa, Europe, and Central Asia. And today, through Earth observation services, they carry out innovative projects in agriculture, environmental protection, emergency management, extractive industry, transportation and road infrastructure development, defense and security, tourism development, cartography and urban planning, land reclamation and water management, state property management, and cadastral works. Thanks to these services, we have succeeded in promoting Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in the international satellite market. Azerbaijan now has a unique orbital position in space. This means that Azerbaijan, as one of 48 countries, has obtained a unique space resource. Currently, Azerbaijan can launch a satellite into orbit at 46 degrees east longitude whenever it wishes. More than 50 countries and over 200 companies benefit from our services. This year, we celebrate our 10th anniversary of presence in the African market.”
“In addition to satellite services, we have also started exporting intellectual products in the space sector,” added D. Badirkhanov.
