The first satellite built by Azerbaijani schoolchildren has been successfully sent into orbit from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California with the “Falcon 9” rocket of SpaceX, APA-Economics reports.
This small-sized “PocketQube” type satellite, prepared by students of grades 7–9 within the “National Satellite Innovation” competition of the COSMIC Academy operating under the Space Agency of Azerbaijan (“Azercosmos”), is now in space.
This satellite, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s victory in the Patriotic War, is also named “Azerbaijan’s Victory”.
This proud project is considered a historic turning point in the country’s education and innovation ecosystem. The program, which involved 672 students from 41 schools across Azerbaijan, is noted as one of the largest space initiatives carried out among schoolchildren in the region.
The Victory satellite was prepared by the students of School No. 297. The project is valued as an event that combines patriotic spirit, creative thinking, and technological interest among the younger generation.
Our satellite “Azerbaijan’s Victory” will carry out basic tests in orbit, collect telemetry data, and provide students with the opportunity to gain real experience in satellite operations even after the launch.
This launch represents the next stage of Azercosmos’ activities aimed at developing local talent, supporting innovative initiatives of young people, and building a sustainable national space ecosystem.
