"Azerbaijan ranks 91st among 154 countries in terms of average internet speed, advancing 30 positions since 2021," said Hasan Omarov, the Acting General Director of Aztelekom LLC, at the event titled 'Online Azerbaijan: A New Stage in Digitization', APA-Economics reports.
He noted that, according to the latest data from March of last year, the United Arab Emirates ranked first in the world in terms of fiber-optic connection penetration, with a coverage ratio of 99.3%.
"Singapore ranks in second place with 95-97%. According to the UN e-Government Development Index, Azerbaijan has advanced 9 positions within a year, ranking 74th out of 193 countries. Azerbaijan has achieved its highest score of 0.76 points in the country’s history, entering the highest category in digital governance rankings for the first time," Hasan Omerov stated.
According to him, the internet speed provided in Azerbaijan will reach 86 Mbps by the end of 2024:
"Additionally, the average internet speed in the country has increased fourfold, reaching 66 Mbps by the end of last year."
