Azerbaijan represented at the meeting of the ECMT Road Transport Group in Malta

The next meeting of the Road Transport Group of the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) was held in Malta, APA-Economics reports.

Azerbaijan was also represented in the meeting.

In his speech, the Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum, Young Tae Kim, spoke about the priorities set by Azerbaijan for its presidency of the organization. He noted that the expansion of ECMT’s geography is one of those priorities, and the Road Transport Group meeting provides a productive platform for dialogue in this regard. The meeting also creates an important basis for next steps in the areas of digitalization in road transport, sustainability, and strengthening interregional connections.

Important results were achieved at the conclusion of the meeting. These include the expansion of the functionality of the ECMT Digital System, which will be launched on January 1, 2026, and ensuring more efficient integration between national authorities and carriers, as well as the application of a short easing period during the switch to the new system. The meeting also decided to include zero-emission vehicles in the ECMT Quota system starting from 2027.
