During the investigation of a cyber incident, the State Service for Special Communications and Information Security of Azerbaijan has tracked down a cyber group operating in 135 countries, the State Service told APA-Economics.

Thus, based on the information obtained as a result of analyzing and reverse engineering the malware, the central control server of the malware was captured by applying counter-cyberintelligence measures.

As a result of the analysis of the obtained data, it was revealed that the cyber group infected 270,741 computers in 135 countries in total. Of these targets, 7,790 were computers belonging to Azerbaijan. Of the infections registered across the country, 35 were computers belonging to various government agencies that were not connected to a centralized antivirus system. In order to ensure information security, the Service, in addition to implementing appropriate security measures in government agencies, has also blocked indicators related to the said malware across the country. In addition, the Service's Computer Incident Response Center has succeeded in neutralizing the activities of the cyber group in many countries by informing the CERT centers that it cooperates with about the infected computers in question. The Service's Computer Incident Response Center recommends that government agencies connect to a centralized antivirus system to ensure information security, and that citizens use individual antiviruses.
