Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan will complete the laying of the Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable along the seabed of the Caspian Sea in October, APA reports.
Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev said this at a government meeting.
According to him, 390 kilometers of fiber-optic cable have been laid from the coast of Sumgayit to the coast of Aktau.
The project is being implemented by Kazakhtelecom and Azerbaijan’s AzerTelecom. The Trans-Caspian fiber-optic cable will create an alternative digital route for high-speed data transmission between Europe and Asia.
The project is one of the key components of the Digital Silk Way initiative. The line’s maximum transmission capacity is expected to reach up to 400 Tbit/s.
