Today, the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) began in the city of Tianjin, China, APA’s correspondent dispatched to China, reports.
The meeting was officially opened by President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, who stated that SCO members now face the urgent task of ensuring their security and achieving prosperity.
Xi Jinping emphasized that relations among the organization’s members are based on friendship and cooperation:
“China is against hegemony and confrontation, and supports free trade. The SCO has already grown into a major international organization, and its influence in the world is increasing. The world is undergoing turbulence and change. In line with the Shanghai Spirit, the principles of the SCO require states to treat each other and their differences with mutual respect. Mutually beneficial cooperation must be prioritized. Cooperation should be expanded in areas such as transportation, energy, digital technology, and artificial intelligence.”
Highlighting the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chinese President also proposed the creation of an SCO Development Bank in the near future.
