Today regional alliances and institutes are more important compared to previous years because UN institutions can't perform their function, Wolfgang Ischinger, the President of the Munich Security Conference Foundation Council, said at the panel discussion at the 11th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.

'There are deficiencies in Global governance, regional alliances now perform the functions of global institutions," he said.

He said that it is an important nuance that members have equal rights in alliances: "NATO is the best example of equality between members, however, we at the same time should confess that there are leading countries here as well or decisions in OSCE are made by consensus, but on the other hand this is a complicated issue because imagine any member country can veto any important decision," Wolfgang Ischinger emphasized.

He added that countries should not be left behind, in the most important issues, because then this would have serious consequences.
