"Social problems are sometimes associated with Islam," Yashar Cholak, Vice-President of the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation Islamic Research Center said in his speech at the panel titled “Multiculturalism, Islam, and Clash of Civilizations Theory: Rethinking Islamophobia” within the international scientific conference “Embracing Diversity: Tackling Islamophobia in 2024” held in Baku, APA reports.
Saying that Islamophobia is spreading rapidly, Yashar Cholak "emphasized that the negative consequences of this concept in society are undeniable."
"Misinformation, disinformation contribute to the spread of Islamophobia. We can easily fall into the trap of Islamaphobia without analyzing the problems because social problems are sometimes associated with Islam. Islamaphobic propaganda penetrates people's consciousness. Widespread ideas such as "Islam is not a religion, it is an ideology", "Muslims are not like us" are unfounded ideology."
He noted that there are stereotypes against Islam.
Yashar Cholak also stated that societies should be informed about the fundamental values of Islam.
"In the fight against Islamophobia, we should also encourage a multilateral approach in the Western world, using a variety of tools. It is necessary to work with the media, focus groups, and conduct psychological analyses," he said.
