Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan, during her speech at the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum, has praised the efforts of the President of Azerbaijan for peace, APA reports.

“The efforts of the President of Azerbaijan for peace are widely recognized and today, as he mentioned, we celebrate seven months of peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and we wish success in the ongoing efforts. Our gathering today is proof that participants who recognize and appreciate Azerbaijan’s voice and leadership in the international community have come together. This forum calls on us to bridge divides. The world urgently needs this,” Grynspan emphasized.

She noted that conflicts have reached their highest levels since 1945.

“In recent days, cargo shipments through one of the world’s most important sea routes have almost come to a halt. Oil prices have risen, fertilizer shipments have stopped. When fertilizers do not move, food prices rise, and those who suffer are families already struggling with hunger.

The countries that will suffer the most include Sudan, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Pakistan, Thailand, Kenya, and Mozambique. The United Nations was created precisely for this purpose: to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war. In a time of growing uncertainty, the world needs a UN ready to deliver the peace and cooperation that our people expect. We have the capacity and the choice to act. Named after Nizami Ganjavi, this center has opened pathways across borders, languages, cultures and empires. In this city, at the crossroads of East and West, we are called to take a similar step: set aside differences and choose dialogue. Peace is not easy—it requires overcoming fear, pain and mistrust. That is our task,” she said.
