UN Secretary-General highly appreciates Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote multilateralism

The Global South NGO Platform serves as an important mechanism for solidarity, dialogue, and partnership, Igor Garafulic, UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan, said, referring to the message of the UN Secretary-General addressed to the participants of the first General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform, APA reports.

The message stated that it is important to fulfill global commitments in terms of promoting inclusive development, strengthening resilience, effective multilateralism, and cooperation, especially in supporting Global South countries, and ensuring that no one is left behind.

It was noted that the dedication of the General Assembly to issues of inclusive urban development, climate resilience, and sustainable governance is of particular importance in terms of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN also highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s efforts in promoting multilateralism, international cooperation, and inclusive participation at the global level. It was stated that the UN representation in Azerbaijan is ready to support cooperation in strengthening the role of civil society in the implementation of sustainable development goals and the shaping of a sustainable urban future.

The message of the Secretary-General was delivered by Igor Garafulic, UN Resident Coordinator ad interim in Azerbaijan.

At the same time, Garafulic noted that during the past three to four months in Azerbaijan, he has observed the country’s serious commitment to international matters and the transparent manner in which even sensitive and complex issues are addressed.

He also encouraged participants who receive invitations to visit Karabakh not to miss the opportunity. Garafulic said he had visited the region around two weeks earlier, together with members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Azerbaijan, and was deeply impressed by the масштаб and pace of the reconstruction and restoration efforts underway there.
