UN official: Processes between Azerbaijan and Armenia are a good example for us

“The processes taking place between Azerbaijan and Armenia are a good example and a source of inspiration for all of us," said the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Rebeca Grynspan, in a statement to APA.

The UN official noted that the role of the Middle Corridor in global trade is steadily increasing and that Azerbaijan plays an important role in the development of this route.

“First of all, this route is very important because connectivity is the key issue today. We see this very clearly. For example, when bottlenecks emerge in trade routes due to war — such as what is currently happening around the Strait of Hormuz — entire trade and value chains are disrupted. Therefore, increasing connectivity and reducing distance differences are very important. In this regard, Azerbaijan plays a very significant role because it has a strategic geographical position between Europe, Asia, the Caspian region, and the Caucasus. For this reason, Azerbaijan should be commended, as the country is investing heavily not only in maritime transport but also in developing land transport connections with other countries,” she emphasized.

Touching upon the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Rebeca Grynspan noted that peace is the main condition for the functioning of transport routes: “As the President noted in his speech within the framework of the Global Baku Forum today, the peace period has already lasted for seven months. This is an achievement that should be noted and is worth highlighting, especially in the current complex international environment. It is also a source of inspiration for the world, because the world needs more peace right now.”
