"The opening of the Zangezur corridor in the new era after the Second Karabakh War is of great importance for the region. We wish that this corridor will be a connecting bridge that ensures peace and cooperation in the region and serves to strengthen the Middle Corridor," Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün in Nakhchivan told journalists, APA reports.
The ambassador said that this is his first visit to Nakhchivan: "Nakhchivan is a land of special spiritual importance for us. This is the homeland of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. At the same time, it is the only region where Türkiye has a land border with Azerbaijan, which the great founding leader, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, called the Turkish Gate. For this reason, it has gone down in history as the place where the "Bridge of Hope" was opened."
The Ambassador emphasized that Nakhchivan has undergone significant economic development in the past 30 years: "The attention and care shown by President Ilham Aliyev to Nakhchivan is clearly evident in the socio-economic projects implemented here. This also makes us very pleased. There have always been close, friendly, and fraternal relations between Türkiye and Nakhchivan. The existence of a mutual land border further strengthens these relations. Turkish citizens often visit Nakhchivan and closely follow the developments here."
The Ambassador said that the purpose of the visit is to further develop economic and trade relations between Türkiye and Nakhchivan and strengthen mutual cooperation: "At the same time, we will continue to fulfill our duties as an embassy in the direction of strengthening Azerbaijani-Turkish brotherhood."
The Ambassador visited the bust and museum of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in Nakhchivan, the Alley of Martyrs, and the Consulate General of Türkiye in Nakhchivan. His meeting with the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Fuad Najafli, is scheduled.
