Strasbourg commemorates victims of Khojaly genocide -PHOTO

The Khojaly genocide victims were commemorated in Strasbourg, France, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe told APA.

A commemorative event marking the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was organized by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe within the “Justice for Khojaly!” international awareness campaign in Strasbourg. The event which was hosted at the city’s Mozart concert hall, was attended by the representatives of the diplomatic missions of the Council of Europe, the academic circles of Strasbourg, and the local community, as well as representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

The participants of the event, who commemorated the memory of the innocent victims of Khojaly with a minute of silence, were reminded of the history of the Khojaly genocide - a crime against humanity, by the permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe, Fakhraddin Ismayilov, and it was stressed that 613 people, including women, children and the elderly, were mercilessly killed as a result of the massacre.

Fakhraddin Ismayilov drew attention to the importance of the “Justice for Khojaly!” international awareness campaign implemented on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, the vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation since 2008 to inform the world community about the Khojaly genocide and noted that the same commemoration ceremony in Strasbourg is being organized within the framework of this campaign.

In addition to that the attendees were informed about residents who survived the massacre visiting their native lands and held the groundbreaking ceremony of the Khojaly genocide memorial by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with their participation on the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide as a result of Azerbaijan's full restoration of its sovereignty over its territory in 2023.
