Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament addresses Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians in Belgrade

Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Sahiba Gafarova addressed the Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held today in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

In her speech on the topic “Advancing Parity: Overcoming Barriers Created by Gender Stereotypes and Negative Social Norms,” Sahiba Gafarova emphasized that such events clearly demonstrate the importance of international cooperation, including the exchange of views and the sharing of best practices, noting that the issues discussed today are not limited to any one country or region.

The Speaker of the Milli Majlis particularly stressed that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, significant measures have been implemented in Azerbaijan to combat domestic violence, eliminate discrimination, expand women’s access to education and employment opportunities, and promote their empowerment.

She noted that an important point is that the achievements attained in Azerbaijan are sustainable in nature and reflect the consistent policy of the Azerbaijani state aimed at ensuring gender equality.
