Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis meets with Chairman of Turkish Parliamentary Committee

Today, Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Hulusi Akar, Chairman of the National Defense Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT), who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of Milli Majlis told APA.

The meeting emphasized that the continuous contacts between the heads of states demonstrate that strategic alliance is enriched with new elements every day. The Shusha Declaration, signed in June 2021, is being implemented step by step. It was also noted that, in line with the spirit of the high-level relations between brotherly countries, inter-parliamentary relations are successfully developing as well. Mutual visits at the level of legislative leaders, meetings within international organizations, and continuous contacts and support among MPs further prove this.

Hulusi Akar shared his impressions of his visit to Shusha and Khankendi, noting the significant development and reconstruction work being carried out in these areas. He stated that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the liberation of lands from occupation has created new realities in the region. He expressed hope that Armenia will demonstrate the necessary will to sign a peace agreement and embrace the peace offer extended by Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Hulusi Akar also highly praised President Ilham Aliyev’s position regarding the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and noted that they have witnessed Azerbaijan’s firm resolve on this issue.

Speaker Gafarova stated that Azerbaijan’s liberation of its lands from occupation is a victory for the entire Turkic world and an important factor in strengthening the unity of brotherly countries.

The Chairman of the TBMM Committee highlighted that Azerbaijan and Türkiye have made significant progress in defense, security, and defense industry development, and that the steps taken by the two countries in these areas are not directed against any third country.

The meeting also involved discussions on other mutually interesting issues.
