Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Gafarova met with her Turkmen counterpart

On August 4, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Speaker of the Turkmen Parliament, Dunyagozel Gulmanowa, within the framework of her working visit to Turkmenistan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

Dunyagozel Gulmanowa greeted the Speaker of the Milli Majlis and expressed her gratitude for her participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Forum held within the framework of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

Highly appreciating the cooperation between the legislative bodies of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanowa expressed her satisfaction with the current level of relations between the countries.

Expressing her gratitude for the cordial meeting, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted the importance of the conference in terms of developing cooperation between the parliaments of the participating countries. Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude to the Turkmen side for the high-level organization of this Conference.

Speaking about the development of relations between the two friendly and brotherly countries, Sahiba Gafarova noted that high-level mutual visits play a major role in the development of relations. Recalling the visit of the delegation led by the Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan last month, she spoke about the importance of the meeting of the high-ranking guest with President Ilham Aliyev and the discussions held within the framework of that visit. The speaker said that the documents signed between the countries have formed the legal basis of the relations. Among these documents, the "Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan" is of particular importance in terms of further development of comprehensive cooperation between the countries.

Stressing the importance of the parliaments of both countries in the development of Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations, Sahiba Gafarova appreciated the activities of the working groups on interparliamentary relations in this area.

At the meeting, it was noted that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are united by deep historical roots, spiritual and cultural values, and it is important to preserve them and pass them on to future generations.

During the conversation, views were also exchanged on other issues of interest to the parties.
