Spain welcomes progress achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Spain positively views the progress achieved in the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, following the ceremonial peace agreement signed in Washington on August 8 last year, said the Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, Francina Armengol, at a joint press conference with the Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, APA reports.

“We hope that, if the appropriate conditions are created, this process will culminate in a Peace Agreement that ends the decades-long Karabakh conflict in the region and opens a new phase of prosperity through cooperation. The principles that must guide this process — international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity — are shared by both parliaments,” Armengol said.

She emphasized that the shared will to deepen bilateral relations between Spain and Azerbaijan has been clearly expressed: “We discussed the importance of expanding existing agreements, such as memoranda of understanding signed in the fields of tourism and education. These documents contribute to broader representation of the Spanish language and culture in Azerbaijan’s education system and could create very interesting opportunities for the future.”

Francina Armengol Socias, Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain also noted that her country aims to further develop its institutional presence in Baku, and both countries are working together to create suitable conditions for this goal: “These bilateral relations have significant economic and trade potential, which has been further strengthened recently through the launch of the Strategic Economic Dialogue established between our countries.”
