Sikh Federation leader: We will not allow India to assimilate Sikhs

“The Indian state wants either to physically destroy us or to eliminate our language, culture, heritage and faith through assimilation. No Sikh will remain silent about this. We would rather die than allow this to happen. Since 1984, every generation of Sikhs has demonstrated this position," Moninder Singh, head of the Sikh Federation in Canada, said during his speech at the international conference titled “June 1984, Amritsar Events: India’s Transnational Repression Against Ethnic Minorities in the Context of Genocide”, dedicated to the Indian government's repressive policy against ethnic minorities, APA reports.

“We have been given the opportunity to engage in high-level dialogue at the state level, in academic circles, and with non-governmental organizations such as the Baku Initiative Group. In these discussions, we have been treated with respect and dignity. For a people seeking freedom, this is very important. This is especially significant at a time when India, which presents itself as a strong state, is conducting disinformation campaigns around the world to portray Sikhs as extremists or terrorists,” the federation leader emphasized.
