Our main goal is to reach the $1 billion mark in trade turnover, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, APA's special correspondent reports.
“Over the past five years, the volume of mutual trade has tripled. The total portfolio of joint projects, as I have already said, has exceeded $5 billion, even though we have already removed many projects from the list. However, our team, both my minister and my deputy prime minister, promise that they will bear specific responsibility for every figure. We are working together with our Azerbaijani colleagues. As part of preparations for the visit, meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council and the Forum of Regions were successfully held. During these meetings, important initiatives were developed for the implementation of joint projects and programs. The main task now is for the governments, ministries and agencies of the two countries to ensure the effective implementation of these initiatives.
“Every time we hold a meeting of this Interstate Council, President Ilham Aliyev and I tell you that we will place the issues under strict control. This time is no exception. Every commitment will be kept under strict control so that real results are achieved. I would like to briefly outline the priority areas of our multifaceted cooperation.
“First, it is important to continue close coordination between our foreign policy agencies in order to advance our common interests on regional and international platforms. This is very important. During our meeting in a narrow format, we also agreed to give a strong impetus to bringing relations between our parliaments, governments, ministries, state institutions and regions to a new level.
“Second, our main goal for the period ahead, as I have just said, is to reach the $1 billion mark in trade turnover. This will be underpinned by the program we adopted today, which provides for specific measures to achieve this important goal.
“Third, we attach particular importance to deepening industrial cooperation. The business communities of our countries are successfully implementing a number of projects in geology, energy, chemicals, finance, construction, agriculture and other sectors. As part of today’s meeting, we will launch new projects. To support such initiatives, the funds of joint investment companies should be actively utilized,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
