"The Shamakhi Meeting will become a permanent fixture on the traditional COP calendar in July," Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev said in an interview with APA.
The deputy minister recalled that COP is held in a different country each year and that the process begins at the start of the year.
"Every year, starting in February, a number of events are held in different countries as part of the preparations for COP. These are standard events included in the established COP calendar. Traditionally, the main preparatory events for the COP process begin in February with the Japan-Brazil Climate Dialogue in Tokyo. This is followed by the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin in March-April, and the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial in May. In June, the sessions of the subsidiary bodies are held in Bonn.
We have now succeeded in including Shamakhi in the COP calendar for July. The Shamakhi Meeting is being held for the third time this year, and Ethiopia, which will host next year's COP, asked us this year to organize the Shamakhi Meeting again next year. This means that Shamakhi will have secured its place in the traditional COP calendar in July," he said.
