Security in the South Caucasus is important for Iran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said this at a press conference today, APA reports.
Responding to a question about the visit of Ali Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, to Azerbaijan and Armenia last week, the spokesman noted that A. Ahmadian's visit to Baku and Yerevan was planned and implemented in advance.
"Iran considers relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia important. Security in the South Caucasus is important for us and we will use all opportunities to strengthen security in this important region. Security should be provided by the countries of the region, free from foreign interference," the official stressed.
