“I think that a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia will not be signed in the near future,” Maxim Shevchenko, a well-known Russian public figure and political expert, said this in an interview with APA's Moscow correspondent.

According to him, the signing of a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan depends on who will enter the White House in Washington in January 2025, based on the results of the elections to be held in November this year: “Either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris... In general, the situation in the region depends on the situation in the world. There are wars going on in the world today. In the South Caucasus region, however, gratifying processes are observed. Both Azerbaijan and Georgia are fighting not to be the tools of huge geopolitical savages.”

The expert emphasized that today Armenia is dominated by powers related to the West, USA and France: "The West is using Armenia as a tool today. Therefore, I think that the problem will increase even more. Armenia is used as a subject of manipulation to prevent reconciliation between the Caucasian peoples. Escalation in relation to Azerbaijan is supported with the help of Armenia. An attempt is being made to strain relations between Azerbaijan and Iran."

Maxim Shevchenko noted that as long as Armenia is not a truly free and sovereign state and as long as Armenia relies on Paris, Washington, Moscow and Tehran and seeks solutions to its problems abroad, there will be no peace agreement: “I would like everyone to understand this clearly. Peace is possible between the Azerbaijani people and the Armenian people. You know, there are tragic moments in history, but time heals it.”

The expert also talked about Russia-Armenia relations. He pointed out that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan serves the interests of a certain circle in Russia, not official Moscow: “I always said that Pashinyan is useful for Moscow. What is happening now confirms this. The problem is that Russia has good relations with Armenianness, not with Armenia. In which, these Armenians always play role in increase and decrease of the "rates". The President of Azerbaijan did not draw attention to the repeated increase in the volume of trade turnover between Armenia and Russia in vain. Here we are not talking about products produced by Armenia, we are talking about goods registered on the territory of Armenia and then brought to the territory of Russia. Look, Armenian lobbyists are sitting on this. Armenian banks earn big money. It is the economy that shapes politics. The new Armenian lobby, replacing the Garabagh clan, offers its services to Russia with its "gray schemes". Armenianness is built on this.”

Maxim Shevchenko also emphasized that Armenia has no importance for Russia: “Armenia is now dependent on Iran. I think it should be given to Tehran. Tehran should be responsible for Armenia's dialogue with France and the West in general. For Russia, Armenia is just a burden. Because all transport corridors bypass Armenia. Russia may agree to participate in transport corridors with Baku and Tbilisi. The North-South and East-West corridors bypass Armenia. Then what is the strategic importance of Armenia? Armenia is just a sore spot in the South Caucasus. Obviously, someone in Moscow wants to exploit this sore point.”
