Russian FM: Former US administration envied 3+3 format

The "3+3" cooperation initiative was jointly proposed by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye, and it has been supported by Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov while answering questions from MPs at the Government Hour in the State Duma, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to him, three meetings have been held in the "3+3" format since 2021: "Two of them were at the ministerial level. The latest one took place in Türkiye in October last year. From the very beginning, everyone agreed that our format is exactly '3+3'. We understand the doubts and nuances in Georgia's position. However, the 'seat' for Georgian representatives will always be in the hall where the meeting of this format takes place. This was confirmed at the last ministerial-level meeting, where a decision was made to create a structured organization from this consultative platform."

Lavrov emphasized that the current Georgian government acts in terms of national interests: "As for the '3+3' format serving the interests of all participants, there is no doubt about that. Let me tell you, in the previous administration of the U.S., this caused not doubt, but envy. In which they proposed a '3+1' format instead of the '3+3' format. The three South Caucasian republics and, of course, Biden's people... As for the parliamentary format of '3+3', it would be very useful. If you come up with such an initiative, we would support it through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
