Rumsfeld Foundation chief: Global interest in CAMCA region is rapidly growing

International interest and attention toward the CAMCA region, which includes Central Asia, Mongolia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan, is rapidly increasing, Rumsfeld Foundation Executive Director Sarah Tonucci said at the Central Asia-Mongolia-Caucasus-Afghanistan (CAMCA) Regional Forum in Baku, APA reports.

Tonucci said that although the CAMCA region is important for the international community, its role has long been underestimated.

“The world is finally beginning to understand what Donald Rumsfeld knew and championed for many years: the CAMCA region is an extremely important and often underappreciated part of the international community,” she said.

According to Tonucci, the CAMCA network currently brings together more than 300 individuals working across the region and beyond.

She noted that members of the network, which spans 10 countries, are working through various initiatives to expand regional cooperation.

Tonucci also thanked local partners in Azerbaijan for their hospitality and expressed satisfaction that the CAMCA community had returned to Baku.
