US President Donald Trump and the Chinese leadership will hold a meeting, and for various reasons both sides will approach this meeting with a certain degree of confidence, said Romano Prodi, former Prime Minister of Italy and former President of the European Commission, during the panel discussion titled “China and the Global Governance Initiative” held within the framework of the 13th Baku Global Forum, APA reports.
He noted that Trump will try to use this meeting to strengthen the role of the United States in the world:
“Currently, the United States is tightening its border and trade policies, and as a result, China’s direct exports to the US have decreased to some extent. Nevertheless, China continues to hold a large share in the global economy and plays an important role in the global trading system.
In this regard, such a balance should be created in global trade that the system does not depend solely on the United States, and the international economic order is preserved. Looking at relations between China and Europe, it can be observed that a certain balance is being formed in this direction.”
