Reunion Island Coordinator: Those crimes are not known to public, we want truth to be revealed

"The patriarchal spirit and the colonial spirit are the same," Reunion Island coordinator Benjamin Clement said while answering journalists' questions, APA reports.

"In this period, compensation was also paid to men. Because they are considered the owners. However, we try not to forget women. Those crimes are not known to the public, we want the truth to be revealed. The compensation we expect is that historical justice and our dignity be restored."

Romain Katambara, chairman of the "Ka Ubuntu" Independence Movement, said that solidarity is essential for the sake of sovereignty: "First, we want the lands to be returned. Then, it is important for us to have our history recognized. To be sovereign, peoples must unite, they must be strong together. We will take back what belongs to us ourselves."
