On October 12, 2023, within the framework of the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the resolution on the right to development proposed by Azerbaijan as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement and co-authored by more than a hundred countries was adopted, APA reports citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The right to development is a topic of particular importance for the Non-Aligned Movement and constitutes a significant part of the movement's agenda.

During Azerbaijan's leadership of the Movement, numerous steps have been taken in the direction of promoting the right to development and strengthening the legal framework. Active and results-oriented activities have been carried out in advancing the position and interests of developing countries on the international stage.

The final documents of the 18th Non-Aligned Movement Summit of Heads of State and Government (October 25-26, 2019) held in Baku and the Ministerial Conference of the Coordinating Bureau of the Movement held in Baku (July 5-6, 2023) placed special emphasis on the promotion of the right to development.

This resolution adopted by the Council paves the way for the presentation of an international document containing legal obligations on the right to development to the UN General Assembly for the first time.

Azerbaijan will continue its active efforts in promoting and advancing the right to development, an integral part of human rights, in various multilateral international formats including the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and others.
