Members of the diplomatic corps visiting Shusha got acquainted with the city, APA reports.
Aydin Karimov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Shusha district, provided information about the city's history, the situation during the occupation, and the restoration and reconstruction works carried out in Shusha after its liberation. He stated that during nearly 30 years of occupation, historical buildings, mosques, and monuments in Shusha were subjected to Armenian vandalism. After the city was liberated, restoration and reconstruction works were launched.
As part of their visit, the diplomats visited the House-Museum of the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
The delegation then toured the “Shirin Su” bathhouse.
The guests came to the Merdinli neighborhood, were informed that the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Shusha, is known not only for its architectural monuments but also for its traditional neighborhoods. In historical Shusha, there were 17 neighborhoods. Merdinli, established in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, is located in the city center.
The diplomats inspected the construction work carried out in Karabakh Street in Shusha.
They visited the house-museum of People's Artist Bulbul, who played a significant role in the development of Azerbaijani musical culture and the formation and evolution of the professional vocal school.
As part of the trip, the foreign diplomats got acquainted with the living conditions created in the first residential complex established in Shusha.
Later, the diplomats visited the Mehmandarov mansion complex. It was noted that the complex was built in the 18th century by members of the Mehmandarov family and includes large and small residential buildings, a family mosque, and a spring.
After Shusha was liberated, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation carried out restoration and repair works at the Mehmandarov mansion complex, including the mosque and the nearby spring.
At the end of the visit, members of the diplomatic corps came to the Jidir Plain and enjoyed a panoramic view of Shusha from there.
