“Guadeloupe, Martinicans, and Kanaks who opposed French colonial policies are portrayed as criminals,” M. Florent, Deputy Secretary General of the Guadeloupe Island UPLG, said this at the press conference dedicated to the presentation of the "Report on Violations of Human Rights in French Overseas Territories", APA reports.

“This is an indication of the racist attitude of the French authorities towards the colonial peoples. They see themselves as a superior race and colonial peoples as inferior. French government and politics must be unequivocally condemned. We call on the international community to demand that France itself adhere to the human rights lessons it wants to apply to others. Our rights to life, health, work, education and healthy nutrition are non-negotiable. The colonial authorities have no authority to control our rights," he added.

M. Florent said that their struggle is for achieving national independence and full sovereignty: "This struggle can only end with the end of French colonial rule. If the international community today includes Guadeloupe in the list of countries to be decolonized and supports us on the way to get rid of colonial slavery, it will be a big step forward for our struggle."
