On April 11, Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev met with Aleksandr Zuev, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law and Security Institutions, APA reports, citing the Prosecutor General's Office.
Kamran Aliyev welcomed the guest and praised the effective partnership established between Azerbaijan and the United Nations.
The Prosecutor General highlighted the successful organization of the COP29 Conference held in Baku in November 2024 under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, emphasizing its significant outcomes.
Aleksandr Zuev noted the high-level organization of COP29 and extended his congratulations on the successful high-level plenary session dedicated to the role of law enforcement agencies in combating climate change. The session was jointly organized by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates.
The meeting also included discussions on preparations for the upcoming COP30 Conference to be held in 2025 in Belém, Brazil. The parties addressed continued cooperation between the UAE, Azerbaijan, and Brazil under the “Troika” principle and the organization of another high-level event to ensure the participation of law enforcement agencies.
Other topics of mutual interest were also discussed, including opportunities for Azerbaijani prosecutors to receive training and participate in programs within various UN institutions.
