Today, the world is witnessing the beginning of a historic period in the South Caucasus in terms of security, stability, sustainable peace, and cooperation, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said at the special meeting dedicated to President Ilham Aliyev’s Washington visit held at the Cabinet of Ministers, APA reports.
The Prime Minister stated that after the Washington meeting, a new phase characterized by abundant opportunities in the region is beginning: “In particular, the agreement on the opening of the new corridor not only ensures the lifting of the blockade on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and gives a special boost to its socio-economic development, but also lays the foundation for regional transport and economic integration. The opening of the corridor is a new and responsible challenge for the Government of Azerbaijan. For this purpose, intensive work must be carried out daily in the initial stage. This unique route, which will connect Europe and Asia, will completely change the region’s energy and transport map, accelerate trade relations between countries, and as a result, Azerbaijan will increase its export opportunities as a transit country and integrate more quickly into the global economy. This process is a very important historic issue for the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan’s peace agenda shapes the economic and political future of the region. The South Caucasus will become an island of stability overall. All of this has always been a priority of President Ilham Aliyev’s policy — who knows better than anyone what to do and when, and who always fulfills his word and promises.”
