President’s Special Representative meets with Guatemala’s FM

As part of his working visit to the Republic of Guatemala, Elchin Amirbayov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, held meetings with Carlos Ramiro Martínez, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, and César Roberto Dávila, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Guatemalan Parliament, APA reports.

During the meetings, the current state and development prospects of Azerbaijan–Guatemala relations were discussed, and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the economic and trade sectors were explored.

The Guatemalan side expressed particular interest in cooperation in the fields of agriculture and tourism.

The meetings also emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries and discussed the potential of using bilateral and multilateral platforms, such as the Non-Aligned Movement and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In addition, issues of regional and international security were discussed. The Azerbaijani side highlighted the practical steps it has taken under its peace agenda and drew attention to the factors hindering the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, namely, the need for amendments to Armenia’s constitution and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group. It was expressed that the international community, including Guatemala, is expected to support Azerbaijan’s peace agenda and encourage Armenia to take the final necessary steps.

The Guatemalan side reaffirmed its support for international law and the peaceful resolution of conflicts and disputes, stating that they unequivocally support Azerbaijan’s peace agenda and initiatives. They also expressed hope that Armenia would remove the remaining obstacles to signing the agreement and noted that Azerbaijan has demonstrated a strong political and diplomatic approach in the process. Azerbaijan’s robust foreign policy and strong economy were emphasized as exemplary for other countries.
