The number of campaigns against Azerbaijan has decreased, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev told journalists, APA reports.
“As was the case during COP29, we are witnessing certain pressure and smear campaigns during this forum as well. Attempts are being made to spread manipulative information about the event, and targeted information is being circulated in certain media outlets. Unfortunately, such an attitude toward Azerbaijan is not new. During periods when internationally significant events are held in our country, certain circles launch smear campaigns. In recent times, however, we have observed that the scale of these campaigns has somewhat decreased. The financial resources of groups operating both inside and outside the country, and acting in coordination with each other, have somewhat diminished. The number of those providing them with grants has decreased. Although they try to deny it, we know very well what purposes they serve under the name of grants.”
Hikmat Hajiyev specifically mentioned the US organization USAID and the European Parliament in this context.
The presidential aide noted that over the past five years, more than 10 different resolutions concerning relations with Azerbaijan have been adopted in the European Parliament: “Those adopting these resolutions themselves do not understand what problems they are talking about. We do not attach special importance to them. Azerbaijan’s independent policy, international reputation, and the respect it has earned in the global community are evident. Today, Azerbaijan acts as one of the world’s important diplomatic centers, and issues of global significance are discussed precisely in Baku. The breadth of the audience participating in the forum and the content of the discussions once again confirm this.”
