"Steps are being taken towards the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia," said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, APA reports citing Tasnim.

The Presidential aide noted that as a result of Azerbaijan's policy, the country's territories were liberated from occupation and its territorial integrity was fully restored: “A very favorable environment has been created for peace in the region. A new status quo and new reality have emerged in the South Caucasus. This status quo is based not on occupation and aggression, but on the norms and principles of international law, legitimacy, and legality. To normalize relations with Armenia, the text of the peace agreement has been submitted by official Baku to the Armenian side. This clearly reflects how committed and supportive Azerbaijan is of the regional peace agenda.

The positive point is that the text of the peace agreement has been agreed upon. However, unresolved issues with Armenia still remain. Armenia must renounce its territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in its constitution in order to achieve lasting and definitive peace in the region. Yet we can say with satisfaction that since the independence of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the region is experiencing a unique opportunity for peace. Today, there is indeed peace and stability in the region. De facto, we can say that peace exists in the region. Azerbaijan will continue to do its part to formalize this peace legally and ensure lasting peace in the region."
