Climate change is also having a serious impact on the shallowing of the Caspian Sea, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, said during his speech at the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana, APA reports.
“As is known, one of the most serious challenges facing our region is the rapid decline in the level of the Caspian Sea. In order to effectively address this challenge, Azerbaijan supports strengthening cooperation among the Caspian littoral states. In this regard, I would like to note that, at Azerbaijan’s initiative, bilateral working groups have been established with Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan to study the causes of the decline in the Caspian Sea level and to develop appropriate measures. Climate change is also having a serious impact on the shallowing of the Caspian Sea. In Azerbaijan, consistent measures are being taken to minimize the negative impact of climate change on the environment of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan is taking a systematic approach to these challenges, aligning economic development with environmental goals,” the Prime Minister said.
