By lifting transit restrictions on Armenia, Azerbaijan has contributed to restoring cooperation and trust in the region, said Prime Minister Ali Asadov in his speech at the 5th Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, APA reports.

The Prime Minister said that the agreements reached on the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia have historic significance in terms of ensuring sustainable cooperation in the region: “The opening of communications in the region, including the connection of Azerbaijan’s main territory with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is an integral part of the country, will serve to expand the region’s transit opportunities for international cargo transportation. We are confident that, based on the agreements reached in Washington on August 8 of the current year, the new route to be opened in the region will become one of the important segments of the Middle Corridor and will contribute to increasing its role in the global transportation network. By the way, Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate its commitment to restoring cooperation and an environment of trust in the region. By removing all transit restrictions related to Armenia that remained from the occupation period, Azerbaijan has made an important contribution in this direction. The transportation of Kazakh grain to Armenia via Azerbaijan is the first practical step taken in this regard. As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said, this shows that peace is now being implemented not only on paper but also in real life."
